Snowshoe in the Park

Yorktown Heights, NY, January 25, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Come to the Friends of FDR and DJT State Parks' first event - Snowshoe in the Park on Saturday, January 28th at FDR State Park, 2957 Crompond Road, Yorktown Heights, New York in Parking Lot 1 to learn how to snowshoe and then demo REI snowshoes in the park for free. Not only is snowshoeing easy, fun, and good exercise, it is an activity that can be enjoyed by all ages.

REI outdoors instructor will demo snowshoes and conduct a “How-to” session covering What to Buy, Where to Go, and How to Get Started. REI experts will first provide basic snowshoeing instructions including tips on staying warm in the cold, proper equipment and practice of basic skills such as shoeing techniques, going up and down hills and guided shoeing on one of the designated park trails. Be prepared and plan to be outside until about 2:00 p.m. Dress in layers and wear waterproof boots to be most comfortable. Since REI will supply snowshoes to try on within the FDR State Park designated area, participants just need to show up to join in the fun.

This will be followed by a FDR State Parks naturalist led guided stomp through the FDR State Park. The led hikes are mildly strenuous, yet they proceed at a leisurely pace.

Light refreshments are provided by 45N 68W Inc. (manufacturers of 45°N 68°W Natural Insect Repellent).

The snowshoe event will be held regardless of the snow conditions. For additional information, please contact the FoFDR via email info@fofdr.org or leave a message at 914-721-0598. Also check out the Friends Facebook page at http://tinyurl.com/FoFDRFacebook .
