Minnesota Atheists & American Atheists Launch Billboard Campaign

Minneapolis, MN, January 27, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Minnesota Atheists and American Atheists are co-sponsoring billboards in Minneapolis and St. Paul From January 23 to February 19, 2012. The billboard space is rented from CBS Outdoor billboard company. Minnesota Atheists is a Local Partner of the national American Atheists organization.

The illuminated 14 x 48 foot billboard located at 725 Washington Ave. N. in Minneapolis reads: “Please don’t indoctrinate me with religion. Teach me to think for myself.”

And the 10.5 x 36 foot billboard on the corner of University Ave. and Lexington Ave. in St. Paul will read: “We are all born without belief in gods. Learn how to be a born-again atheist.”

Both billboards feature a smiling baby on the right side of the billboard and the URLs for American Atheists (Atheists.org) and Minnesota Atheists (MinnesotaAtheists.org) on the bottom of the billboard.

Eric Jayne, Minnesota Atheists board member and project leader states, “We hope to inspire those who already identify as atheists to become aware of and join Minnesota Atheists and American Atheists. We also wish to challenge the practice of indoctrinating young, impressionable minds with religious dogma that cannot be substantiated with evidence. As the late, outspoken atheist Christopher Hitchens said, ‘If religious instruction were not allowed until the child had attained the age of reason, we would be living in a quite different world.’”

Dave Silverman, president of American Atheists states, “The billboards let our fellow atheists know that there are local and national organizations out there that support them. We also wish to encourage people to attend the American Atheists’ co-sponsored Reason Rally in Washington D.C., March 24, 2012.” For more information visit www.ReasonRally.org.

Images of the billboards can be viewed and re-distributed from the Minnesota Atheists website at: www.MinnesotaAtheists.org/billboards.
