Maple Leaf Farms Lends Support to NFL’s Effort to Stamp Out Hunger

“Locally Grown” Scores Big at the Taste of NFL

Indianapolis, IN, February 02, 2012 --(PR.com)-- While chicken wings, guacamole and chips and a myriad of chili recipes will grace buffet tables at neighborhood Super Bowl parties everywhere, guests at the “The Taste of NFL” will feast on more urbane adaptations of football friendly fare.

Billed as The Party with a Purpose®, The 2012 Taste of NFL will rally the country’s top chefs, the NFL’s greatest and major food and beverage companies to raise money in support of food banks throughout the United States. The annual strolling food and wine event features a chef from each NFL city serving their signature dish alongside a current or alumni NFL player.

This year’s Taste of the NFL will have a distinct local flavor as several chefs showcase Indiana-based Maple Leaf Farms Duck. Kevin Rathbun, representing the Atlanta Falcons, plans to score extra points with his Duck Tostados Topped with Fresh Hass Avocados. Sanford D’Amato, Green Bay Packer’s celebrity chef will treat guests to his version of a Wisconsin favorite -- Duck Borscht with Duck Brats and Caraway Cream. Chef Tony Hanslits, of The Chefs Academy in Indianapolis, has created a Savory Duck Sausage just for the occasion.

“Maple Leaf Farms is honored to again be part of this great tradition and are particularly proud that our products are part of this year's event hosted in our home state of Indiana," said Co-President John Tucker. “We share the organization’s passion for addressing hunger in our nation and believe that an event that celebrates fine food and football is a great way to bring attention to this important cause.”

The Taste of the NFL, annually held on the eve of the Super Bowl, is one of the most coveted tickets of Super Bowl week. It is a unique way for fans to experience exceptional cuisine, meet NFL players and coaches, and support the fight against hunger. Food, fun and football all to tackle hunger in America – now that’s a game that everyone can get behind. Since 1992, the Taste of the NFL has distributed more than $11 million to food banks throughout the country to help feed the 37 million Americans who have turned to their local food banks for assistance. Additional funds are raised through local events held with teams in many NFL markets throughout the year.
