“Take Me to the Cross:” A New All-Family Series at the First Presbyterian Church of Titusville Begins February 29

"Take me to the Cross," an innovate new program to bring together people of all generations, will allow families a weeknight break from cooking supper and a chance to learn more about the artistic history of the cross in Christian history. Craft making will round out the evening.

Titusville, NJ, February 23, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The First Presbyterian Church of Titusville announces its new Lenten series “Take Me to the Cross,” an innovative program designed to give families and the larger community a weekly opportunity to enjoy a time of rest and learning.

“The ‘Take Me to the Cross’ series is going to be an excellent opportunity for families and neighbors to take a weeknight break,” said the Rev. Will Shurley, pastor of the church. “Along the way, visitors from the whole community will learn more about what the cross means for each of us today—and at the same time, take away the hassle of cooking supper.”

“Take Me to the Cross” will allow participants to enjoy a meal and to learn more about four artistic representations of the cross—the Celtic, Anchor, Jerusalem and Latin forms—over the course of four Wednesday evenings, February 29 and March 7, 14 and 21. Visitors will have time to explore the meanings of the crosses, and the opportunity to participate in age- appropriate, high-quality cross craft making.

“We want to give to the community the gifts of rest and fellowship during Lent,” said Elizabeth Cluff, a Princeton Theological Seminary senior and intern at the church. “But, as important, when designing the series, we wanted to include a chance for people of all ages to engage multiple senses in learning about their faith, including tactile senses used in crafts such as beadwork, painting and glass etching.”

“Take Me to the Cross” will begin each week with a $5 catered supper at 5:15 p.m., followed by the cross program and craft making at 6:15 p.m.

“We don’t want folks to feel rushed,” said Shurley. “That defeats the purpose of Lent’s reflective quality. Instead, we want interested families and individuals to come when they can, whether at 5:15 p.m. for family supper time or later, just for the program.”

“We also want to be friendly to families and individuals of all ages,” added Cluff. “Even the youngest children are welcome—and we’ll have crafts for them to make and take home, too.”

The “Take Me to the Cross” series is open to the public. The lesson and craft time is free; supper will be available for $5 a person. Reservations are not necessary, but can be made by calling (609) 737-1385 or by writing to office@titusvillechurch.org.
