City of Langford’s FieldTurf Fields Receive International Rugby Board Certification

Langford, Canada, March 07, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The City of Langford’s Goudy Field and Bear Mountain Stadium at City Centre Park were both recently tested and certified in accordance to field regulations and specifications by the International Rugby Board (IRB). The IRB is the primary global organization that governs the sport of rugby.

“FieldTurf has done a wonderful job in providing us world-class sporting venues,” said Mike Leskiw, Parks Manager, City of Langford. “These IRB certifications are a testament to FieldTurf’s efforts towards providing us the very best of quality.”

There are a number of international games scheduled for 2012 at City Centre Park; the 1st on March 10, 2012 when Canada U20s vs. Romania U20s at Bear Mountain Stadium.

With 13 IRB compliant fields worldwide, FieldTurf is the clear leader in rugby. Other distinguished venues include College Rifles RFC in New Zealand and Complex Sportif in France.

FieldTurf is one of six artificial turf companies in the world to have received the prestigious “IRB Preferred Producer” status. The IRB launched its Preferred Turf Producer program to ensure that installed fields are both safe to play on and, through research and development, can evolve with the needs of rugby.

“We’re proud to associate ourselves with the community of Langford and the well-being of their city,” said FieldTurf President Eric Daliere. “Both Goudy Field and Bear Mountain stadiums are state-of-the-art venues that now have the backing of the International Rugby Board to boot. The culmination of everyone’s efforts in this endeavor has made this possible, and the City of Langford Parks and Recreation should benefit from it tremendously.”

An IRB approved field goes through rigorous testing in accordance to the board’s "Artificial Rugby Turf Performance Specification" as outlined in IRB Regulation 22 (from March 2011 edition). These fields excel performance wise and pass all safety measures when it comes to rugby and other contact sports played on the surface. The criteria involved include visual inspection, performance tests, and site/material identification testing.
