Noveguard™, a Breakthrough New Natural Preservative System Kills Foodborne Bacteria

A new natural preservative system, which can be added to beverages during processing, has the potential to kill deadly pathogens and extend shelf-life.

Oceanside, CA, March 16, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Researchers from Metabolic Response Modifiers (MRM) have found a novel natural preservative system with the ability to inhibit microbial activity. The proprietary system called Noveguard™ consists of a polypeptide derived naturally from fermentation, together with selected culinary herb extracts. It can replace common synthetic chemical preservatives such as Sodium Benzoate and Potassium Sorbate which many consumers are seeking to avoid in their diets. MRM liquid dietary supplements using Noveguard™ successfully passed the United States Pharmacopeia Antimicrobial Preservative Effectiveness Test.

Foodborne illnesses cause, according to the Centers for Disease Control, 3,000 annual deaths and food recalls in the US cost food producers an estimated $1.4bn in 2010.

"Our proprietary natural preservative system Noveguard™ is aimed at protecting foods from a broad range of microorganisms that can cause illness or discomfort," said Mark Olson, President of MRM. “MRM is committed to provide natural safe supplements, eliminating our consumer’s exposure to chemicals additives.”

Commercialization
MRM launched its new, proprietary natural preservative system last weekend at Natural Products Expo West. Noveguard™ replaces its previous chemical preservative system of Sodium Benzoate and Potassium Sorbate in its Liquid Supplements, L-Carnitine Vanilla 16 and 32 oz and L-Carnitine Tropical Berry 16 oz and 32 oz.

The novel natural preservative system Noveguard™ will be made available to third parties through licensing.
