Bayer CropScience Blog:

“One of the major concerns in the agricultural community is that there will not be a sufficient water supply available for food production to meet the needs of a population that will increase by 2 billion in the next 30 to 40 years,” said Rufty. “This increased demand for water, which will increase the costs for pesticides, fertilizers and other resources, needs to be met in order to counteract the effects of a reduced availability of farmland. Key academics and decision makers need to work together now in order to make strides for more efficient water use and general agriculture practices for a sustainable future.”
