The Canadian Construction Association Announces Mr. John Schubert as the 2012 Chair of the Board of Directors

Ottawa, Canada, March 24, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Canadian Construction Association (CCA) is pleased to announce that John Schubert has been installed as the 2012 Chair of its Board of Directors. Mr. Schubert was sworn in at the Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Construction Association on Friday March 16, 2012, in Savannah, Georgia. He takes over the position from Nadine (Dee) Miller, Vice President of JJM Construction and President of F.A.S.T. First Aid & Survival Technologies Limited.

Mr. Schubert joined the Canadian Construction Association Board of Directors in 2003, and became a member of the Executive Committee in 2006, where he served as First and Second National Vice-Chair and Honorary Secretary/Treasurer for the Board. In addition to his time with the Executive Committee, Mr. Schubert has been actively involved in many of CCA’s Council’s and Committees, and he has served as Chair of its Finance Committee and Gold Seal Committee.

Mr. Schubert currently serves as President of McCaine Electric Ltd., a Winnipeg-based electrical contractor that has served the Manitoba market since 1918, and which he purchased in 1979. As a leading firm in the institutional, commercial, and industrial marketplace, McCaine Electric Ltd. was recently acquired by the Canem Group, where Mr. Schubert has taken on the added responsibility of Vice President of Business Development.

In addition to his involvement with CCA, Mr. Schubert has been actively involved in the construction industry in Manitoba. He is a Past President of the Winnipeg Construction Association, and a former Vice-Chair of the Apprenticeship Board of Manitoba. John has participated on the Construction Industry Wages Board, the Construction Labour Relations Association, and the Manitoba Electric League.

Active in many other organizations, Mr. Schubert was a founding member and Chairman of the Manitoba Construction Sector Council and currently Chair of the Advisory Council on Workforce Development for the Province of Manitoba, and a member of the national Roundtable on Workplace Skills. He also serves as a Trustee on several Pension, and Employee Benefit Plans and is currently on the Canadian Board for an international foundation.

In his address to the Annual General Meeting, Mr. Schubert spoke of the importance of innovation and collaboration as the industry faces the “Changing Face of Construction”—the 2012 Annual Conference theme—head-on. This includes addressing the infrastructure deficit, skilled labour shortages, human resource issues, and the introduction and adoption of new technologies.
