Shade Tree Garage Sets April as "Give Back to Community" Month

Being a good neighbor and embracing community is always a focus of Morristown's Shade Tree Garage, so much so they have designated April as "Give Back to Community" Month

Morristown, NJ, April 01, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The owner of Shade Tree Garage, in Morristown, believes making a commitment to local community is an important part of being a good business neighbor. In response, they have designated the month of April as “Give Back to Community” month. During the month they will be collecting used automotive batteries for recycling. Additionally, they will be focusing efforts to raise funds for The Robert Packard Center for ALS Research.

For the month of April, and in celebration of Earth Day, Shade Tree Garage will be participating in AAA New Jersey’s Great Battery Roundup. Individuals can bring their used automotive batteries to Shade Tree Garage in Morristown. AAA New Jersey will then recycle all the batteries collected and donate the revenues to the NJ Chapter of the Nature Conservancy. According to John O’Connor, owner of Shade Tree Garage, “We’re proud to say we’ve been a ‘green’ auto repair facility since we opened our doors in 1975, even before it was the environmentally-friendly thing to do.”

April also brings with it Shade Tree Garage’s annual fundraising efforts for ALS research. For every oil and filter service they perform during the month, they will donate $3 to The Robert Packard Center for ALS Research. “We’ve been involved in fundraising for this research since my brother was diagnosed with ALS several years ago. It’s exciting to know that the efforts of our entire family, combined with the support of friends, has allowed us to raise enough money to fund a clinical trial.”

ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease, is an incurable and fatal neuromuscular disease. People who have ALS lose the ability to move their limbs and the muscles needed to move, eat, speak and breathe. Although doctors are not able to reverse the progression of ALS, advances in treatment mean that many who have the disease live longer than they did in the past.

“There is nothing more satisfying than knowing you’re making a difference,” states O’Connor. “Whether it’s a repair job for a customer or in giving back to our local community, we strive for excellence.” Having been in business since 1975, Shade Tree Garage has become a well-recognized member of the Morristown business community.

O’Connor adds, “Business is built on relationships. Over the years, we’ve met a lot of individuals with dreams to change their world for the better. If we can help them do that, we will.” Shade Tree Garage is a supporter of a number of local organizations including The Community Theatre and Grow It Green Morristown. Additionally, Shade Tree Garage was recognized as one of the first “green” repair facilities in New Jersey.
