Joint Scholarships for Hong Kong Private Wealth Management Professionals

The Hong Kong Securities Institute (HKSI) today announced the offer of three scholarships for Private Wealth Management (PWM) professionals in Hong Kong. The scholarships, each worth HKD42,000, are being jointly offered by the HKSI, Association of International Wealth Management (AIWM) and AZEK.

Hong Kong, Hong Kong S.A.R., April 14, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Hong Kong has been playing a lead role as a PWM Centre for the Asia Pacific region. Market development has been fairly remarkable, largely a result of the professionalism of market practitioners, a supportive trading environment, and a robust regulatory framework. Fuelled by the rapid growth of the economies in the Greater China region, and the steady inflow of wealth from regional and global markets, the PWM industry in Hong Kong is enjoying a promising outlook as well.

To ensure PWM professionals in Hong Kong are well-equipped to ride on this wave of opportunities, HKSI took the lead last year in bringing in world class private wealth management qualification – the Certified International Wealth Manager (CIWM®) programme. The structured programme, introduced in 2011, helps PWM professionals gain deeper industry understanding and knowledge.

As part of its commitment to nurturing talent for the industry, the HKSI’s new scholarship programme will allow for more professionals to be trained in the provision of advisory services in the wealth management industry.

Ms Julia Leung, Under Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, is pleased to see the HKSI takes this initiative. “The HKSI has developed a set of competency guidelines for the private banking intermediaries and has built a pipeline of talents for the industry through the CIWM programme,” she said.

Chairman of the HKSI, Mr Anthony Muh, commented, “We are pleased to join hands with AIWM and AZEK to offer these scholarships for PWM professionals in Hong Kong. The scholarships require commitment from both sides: the awardees will need to commit their time for this advanced programme while the local and international institutes are committing financial resources for the nurturing of talents.”

Mr SF Wong, Chief Executive of the HKSI, added, “HKSI started offering annual scholarships to university students from 2004. Now, we are taking a further step by encouraging PWM market professionals to invest for their own career development.”

The joint scholarships programme is now inviting applications. The scholarships cover the fees for modules 1 and 2 of the preparatory course and papers 1 and 2 of the final examination for CIWM. The application deadline is 30 April 2012. For details, please visit www.hksi.org/CIWM.
