A Good Food Garden™ Blooms in Avondale

South Salem, NY, April 18, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Teich Garden Systems LLC announced the completion of a new Good Food Garden™ at the U.S. Bank Boys & Girls Club in Avondale, Ohio. The garden was sponsored by Scripps Networks Interactive and its Food Network. The garden provides a platform to give kids hands-on learning about where food comes from and to improve their nutritional knowledge. The Avondale garden is the 36th Good Food Garden built by Teich Garden Systems around the country.

The opening of the garden and first planting day was attended by U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown, John Lansing, President of Scripps Networks Interactive and chef and television personality Aarti Sequeira. Employees of Scripps Networks and members of the Boys & Girls Club planted collard and mustard greens, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and assorted lettuce.

Craig A. Rice, President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati stated, “We are thrilled to have this garden which will bring fresh vegetables to the food desert of Avondale. The Good Food Garden will allow our children to grow fresh vegetables for themselves, their family and the community. We will also be able to teach reading, research, presentations, writing, science and math in the garden helping us to achieve our mission which can be summed up in seven words: ‘graduate, fit for life, ready to serve.”

Mark Teich, founder of TGS, noted, “We are gratified to be working with Scripps Networks Interactive for the fifth consecutive year to design and install Good Food Gardens. We know that Scripps Networks Interactive and their charitable partner, Share Our Strength, have made an impact on numerous communities around the country. When children participate in school or community garden programs, they become more curious about different types of foods they might not otherwise try and broaden their tastes. That can only be good for their lifetime eating habits. We are thrilled to be a part of that effort.”
