Community Business College Helped Modesto Celebrate Earth Day

The college known for its green business classes, hands out prizes and free information at Modesto's annual festival.

Modesto, CA, April 23, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Community Business College helped the City of Modesto mark Earth Day 2012 with an information booth at the 2012 Earth Day Festival on April 22nd.

The festival always offers free admission to all and includes information from Stanislaus County’s agencies, the City of Modesto Solid Waste and Recycling and private vendors such as Community Business College.

Community Business College participated in the festival because the Modesto college has adopted innovative green strategies into vocational education programs for the unemployed—from teaching green office practices, such as paper reduction and recycling techniques, to future office workers to solar technologies training. As a business, the institution practices what it preaches. By doing so, the school saves more than $3,000 every year and helps divert an increasing amount of material from the waste stream. As part of its effort to increase student, faculty, and staff awareness and participation in its effort to practice ecologically sound practices, Community Business College recycles beverage containers and uses the money from recycled aluminum and plastics to sponsor an ice cream party for the college staff and students.

For its innovative strategies and incorporating green methods into its curricula, Community Business College has been recognized with multiple recycling awards from the City of Modesto Parks and Recreation Department. More curriculum information can be found at the school's website at www.communitybusinesscollege.edu.

Community Business College has received recognition for its “green” techniques and classes.

As part of the Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP), the California Integrated Waste Management Board recognized Community Business College with a WRAP business award. The award recognizes the school’s waste and recycling program, and achievements in education and training.

The State of California’s CoolCalifornia organization awarded Community Business College a Climate Leader award for innovative green and recycling techniques. The school was recognized for its money saving methods and green practices as part of the "practice what we teach" initiative in conjunction with its solar-photovoltaic classes, green office skills and Green HVACR.

The school’s green classes for home and business plus its solar technologies introductory class are described at the school’s “green” webpage: http://www.cbcwebcollege.com/GoGreen/Green.htm.

The festival included games for children and free samples and handouts all around the park with more than 80 booths. Another highlight of this event was live entertainment in the Mancini Bowl.
