Support Groups for Kinship Caregivers Starting in Las Vegas

Las Vegas, NV, May 03, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Local nonprofit Foster Kinship is starting free support groups for individuals who are raising their relative’s children in Clark County, NV.

Foster Kinship was founded in December 2011 to help people who have taken on the difficult job of creating safe, loving homes for vulnerable children when the parents are no longer able or willing to do so. "Often that role falls on grandparents, who must deal with the disruption of ‘second time parenting’ in their retirement years," Foster Kinship founder Ali O'Donnell says. "It’s a huge change that requires an unexpected amount of knowledge and resources."

The free support groups will connect kinship caregivers with others experiencing the same challenges. The support groups will meet once a month in 2012 and free childcare will be provided with RSVP. The support groups are open to anyone who is primarily responsible for raising their relative’s child, regardless of the caregiver’s age or the child’s custody status.

The first support group will meet Saturday May 19th at 2:00 PM at 5420 W Sahara # 103. For more information and to RSVP for childcare please contact Ali O’Donnell at (702) 546-9988 or ali@fosterkinship.org, or go to http://www.meetup.com/Kinship-Caregivers-Support-Group/.
