Operation61 Launches Awareness Campaign

Salt Lake City, UT, May 15, 2012 --(PR.com)-- In response to the rapidly rising demand for child sex trafficking in the United States, Operation61 is launching a public awareness campaign this week that is designed to teach parents, guardians and concerned adults how to protect the children in their lives.

The Business of Child Sex Trafficking

This public awareness campaign has been developed around an economic model of child sex trafficking that is fueled by strategically targeting young people as either products or consumers. The campaign is designed to show people how this economic model is working in our society today, how individuals may unknowingly contribute to its success and why human trafficking is the fastest growing organized crime in the world.

Operation61 believes that this economic model begins and ends with demand. Due to the exploitation of women in society and the increased availability and addictive nature of pornography, there continues to be an increase in the need to manufacture products to meet demand. Combined with more targeted marketing efforts, new distribution channels and more readily available forms of consumption opportunities from the growth of the internet, the threat to the youth of America has never been greater.

Monnica Manuel, co-founder of Operation61, says, “The only long-term solution to this problem is to go to the root cause and impact the demand. Young people today are targeted in ways that parents and adults never faced in previous generations, leaving them ill-prepared to understand the risks their children encounter.” The goal of Operation61’s campaign is to empower parents, guardians, coaches, teachers and mentors as they help young people navigate through a society with a rapidly growing demand for commercial sex.

What’s New

Today’s campaign announcement coincides with the launch of a brand new website designed to provide collateral and resources intended to help adults and youth have open communication and assist in dealing with the threat of child sex trafficking head on. In addition, Operation61 has partnered with leading regional, national and global organizations to provide additional assistance and victim services to those wanting to escape the horrors of modern day slavery.

To spread the word, Operation61 is hosting its 3rd annual Stop Traffic Race at Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 9th, 2012. The race serves as platform to inform community members about the predatory tactics of the child sex trafficking industry. Race details can be found at www.Operation61.org/team61.php.
