Pad Party a Period.ic Gathering of Women Helping Women

Public assistance programs such as SNAP (formerly known as Food Stamps) help millions of families in the US cover the cost of food, yet these benefits cannot be used to purchase basic personal care items, including feminine care products. This fact led Ann Germanow to organize Pad Party.

Rochester, NY, May 18, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Rochester, NY entrepreneur Ann Germanow’s dining room is bursting with 5975 tampons, 2225 sanitary pads and 1550 panty liners! Over 200 boxes of feminine care products were collected last night at Pad Party, an event she organized and sponsored along with Shear Ego Salon and Spa. Germanow will spend the next couple of days dropping off the collected boxes of feminine care products to local nonprofit organizations for distribution to teens and women in need.

One hundred women from around Rochester gathered at the inaugural event- the entrance fee was a box of feminine care products. Guests socialized, were treated to pampering with mini manicures and chair and hand massages, and enjoyed refreshments.

“Most women take their monthly trip down the feminine care aisle for themselves and their daughters for granted, but when a family is struggling to pay the grocery bills, basic personal care items not covered by Food Stamps can be the most expensive. I am thrilled with the turnout at Pad Party which I hope will be duplicated in communities across the US. It’s important to create awareness to this problem and help women lead healthier lives by having access to feminine hygiene protection products in a dignified manner,” said Germanow.

“We see women every day who are in need of feminine care products. Food stamps do not cover these costly yet necessary items,” comments Cindy Harper, executive director of Cameron Community Ministries. “Many school and community groups are reluctant to collect these much-needed “unmentionable” products. We are grateful that Pad Party will help replenish our supply of sanitary products.”

Cameron Community Ministries is one of five different organizations which will benefit from last nights’ event. The other four organizations are Mission Share, LASS (Ladies Attaining Self Sufficiency), Sisters Together Achieving Results, and The Center for Youth.

Sponsoring Pad Party is a natural fit for Germanow who is the founder of The Scensible Source Company, LLC, and inventor of Scensibles, a personal disposal bag for feminine care products. The Rochester-based company distributes Scensibles throughout the United States for installation in public-use restrooms from Columbia University to the Washington State Ferry System, as well as consumer packaging available on the shelves in Wegmans Food Markets and on Amazon.
