Scotts Valley Relay for Life: You Won't Forget It, You Won't Regret It

24-hour Event Embodies the Spirit of “One Day. One Night. One Community. One Fight,” May 19-20, 2012

Scotts Valley, CA, May 18, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Coming together for fun and a cure for cancer, the Scotts Valley Relay for Life, an annual fundraiser for cancer research will be a family-friendly 24 hour life-changing event that will bring together 250+ participants to “celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer; remember loved ones lost to the disease; and fight back against a disease that takes too much.” All funds raised will go to the American Cancer Society®.

Touted by local event organizer Jackie Maurer as the biggest slumber party in Scotts Valley, the event is designed to raise awareness about a serious disease with a fun and community-centered event. Beginning at 10am on Saturday, DJ Laurie Roberts will kick off the event opening ceremonies with cancer survivors and family members of those who have lost their battle releasing doves in honor and remembrance. This year, each lap will have its own theme, such as Punk Rock Lap, Mustache Lap, and Clown Lap (coulrophobics beware). Former “Survivor” contestant, Lex Vandenberg will be a featured speaker at the evening luminaria ceremony.

Teams will be conducting onsite fundraising by selling food, beverages, crafts and other items at their campsites. A bounce house and kids’ camp with arts and crafts, games and more is sure to keep the little ones happy. Live bands will motivate and entertain participants as they make their way around the track throughout the duration of the event. According to event organizer Jackie Maurer, 28 teams have signed up to participate, and will continue now through event day. A total of $41,000 has been raised so far. Participation is free and open to the public.

The Relay will begin at 10am on Saturday and continue through 10am on Sunday. Skypark is at 361 Kings Village Road, Scotts Valley.
