Stylish Boutique Takes Stand Against Meningitis with Local Non-Profit

One local boutique wants to help the community stay stylish and safe this summer. Rouge Boutique has collaborated with The Immunization Partnership, for a day of shopping and saving lives. The event gives back to the community by offering free immunizations, especially the meningitis vaccine which is required for incoming college freshman in Texas. Those involved hope to ensure a healthy upcoming school year.

Houston, TX, June 05, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Over the summer, parents do so much to prepare their kids for the next school year. After vacations, family barbecues, and road trips are complete; parents find themselves scrambling to knock out their back-to-school checklists. Shopping for school supplies and new school clothes become priority. For parents with children transitioning from high school to college, other items like dorm room gear and textbooks are added to their lists. One local boutique wants to make sure that parents add healthy precautions like the meningitis vaccine to the top of their lists.

"This issue is personal to us," says Judy Hunte, manager of Rouge Boutique. Nicolis Willaims, the Texas A&M student who died from meningitis in February of last year, was the son of Judy's close friend. When Judy decided to use the boutique as an outlet to better the community it wasn't hard to decide on a cause. The Jamie Schanbaum and Nicolis Williams Act, which took affect this year, requires college and university students under the age of 30 to have the bacterial meningitis vaccine. The state law is a big step toward battling this, and other, preventable diseases. On Saturday, June 23, 2012 Rouge Boutique will be hosting a free immunization drive. Representatives from The Immunization Partnership will be present to provide information and answer questions about specific vaccines or other immunization issues. The Christus Healthy Living Mobile Clinic will be offering standard teenage vaccines including those against Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, HPV, chickenpox, and meningitis free of charge to those 18 and under. Ana Dragsbaek, TIP CEO said, “The Immunization Partnership is thrilled and honored to partner with Rouge Boutique for this wonderful event. We are so grateful to Rouge Boutique for highlighting our mission and raising awareness about the devastating effects of vaccine-preventable diseases, such as meningitis.”

Later that evening, patrons are invited to “A Night In The Rose Garden” – a free fashion show and shopping event featuring some of the great fashions available at Rouge Boutique.

Additional information about immunizations, resources, and prizes will be given to fashion show attendees. Fifteen percent of all of the boutique's sales for that day will also be donated to The Immunization Partnership.

Both events are free to attend. Those wishing to take advantage of the free immunizations are asked to register at http://immunize.eventbrite.com. The immunization drive is from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The fashion show and shopping event will follow, starting at 7:00 pm. Both events will be held at Rouge Boutique located at 1560 Eldridge Parkway, Suite 148, Houston, TX 77077 on June 23rd. Everyone is invited to stop by and enjoy the events.
