Vanderbilt University Medical Center to Use RASMAS Product Recall Management Service to Streamline Product Recall Processes

Falls Church, VA, November 17, 2005 --(PR.com)-- Mitretek Systems announced today that Vanderbilt University Medical Center has selected Mitretek Healthcare’s Risk And Safety Management Alert System (RASMAS) service to automate its product recall management operations.

Vanderbilt, an innovative not-for-profit health care provider, will use RASMAS on an enterprise-wide basis to receive, track, manage, and respond to product alerts and recalls. RASMAS will be deployed in Vanderbilt Hospital, Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, the Psychiatric Hospital at Vanderbilt and 23 of its clinics.

“Vanderbilt targeted recall management for business process improvement because of the increased frequency of recalls and the concern for potential oversight,” said Vanderbilt Risk Manager, Diane Moat.

“We’re honored that Vanderbilt selected Mitretek Systems as the catalyst to extend process improvement to its recall management,” said Lydia Thomas, Mitretek Systems president and CEO. “Vanderbilt joins a growing list of RASMAS health care customers that rely on electronic notification and tracking to improve patient safety, reduce costs, better manage working capital, and enhance JCAHO and FDA compliance.”

RASMAS provides a comprehensive Web-based service for distribution, receipt, and tracking of product alerts and recalls. RASMAS, developed by Mitretek Systems in collaboration with Johns Hopkins Health System, is now used by numerous academic medical centers including the University Medical Center – Tuscon, Yale New Haven Health System, and Duke University Health System.

RASMAS is the only tool that provides recall management for potentially all products that are used in the health care environment including biomedical equipment, pharmaceuticals, blood, food, tissue and even children’s products that may be found in the pediatric care setting. All RASMAS subscribers to-date have closed the ‘number of days from receipt to completion gap’ by 89 percent.
