Barton P. Levine Presents Estate Planning Seminar to New York City Retirees at Manhattan Headquarters of Teamsters Local 237-IBT

New York, NY, June 11, 2012 --(PR.com)-- On May 24, 2012, Barton P. Levine of the Law Offices of Barton Levine presented an estate planning seminar to New York City retirees at the Manhattan headquarters of Teamsters Local 237-IBT.

Mr. Levine showed the attendees how proper estate planning can avoid the delays, high costs, uncertainty and inconvenience of a probate or administrative proceeding. He also showed how proper estate planning can avoid an expensive and humiliating guardianship proceeding; provide for children or grandchildren with special needs; provide for spendthrift children; provide divorce protection for their children; fulfill second marriage estate planning objectives; provide nursing home protection through Medicaid planning; and minimize federal and state estate taxes.

The Seminar also showed the pitfalls of poor estate planning, some of the disadvantages of Wills, and why a revocable or irrevocable trust might be a useful estate planning tool.

The attendees also learned how revocable and irrevocable trusts work, and how they can provide for all of the provisions typically found in Wills. The Seminar also showed how the use of trusts can protect one’s privacy; avoid the delays, high costs, uncertainty and inconvenience of a probate or administrative proceeding, or a guardianship proceeding, and avoid multiple ancillary proceedings where a decedent dies owning real property outside of New York State.

The Seminar also covered the current federal and New York State estate tax provisions, and provided the attendees with insight into future estate tax legislation.

Mr. Levine also emphasized the importance of Powers of Attorney, Health Care Proxies, Living Wills and HIPPA forms.
