ReproTech, Ltd., a cryobank specializing in long-term storage of human reproductive tissue (sperm, eggs, embryos and ovarian/testicular tissue), was a sponsor in the Sparks, NV Dash for Dads Prostate Cancer 5K benefitting local families affected by prostate cancer.

St. Paul, MN, June 20, 2012 --(PR.com)-- ReproTech, Ltd., a cryobank specializing in long-term storage of human reproductive tissue (sperm, eggs, embryos and ovarian and testicular tissue), was proud to sponsor the Sparks, NV Dash for Dads on Father’s Day, June 17. ReproTech's Reno, NV Site Director, Danika Batastini, and family and friends participated in the 5K event held at the Sparks Marina. The event was hosted by the Builders Association Charity, a local non-profit organization that assists families in Northern Nevada, and brought out close to 400 participants. All proceeds from the event will help pay for PSA testing, an early detection screening, as well as provide financial assistance to those men diagnosed with and in treatment for prostate cancer. Coupons for PSA testing were provided in participant goodie bags by Urology Nevada.

About 1 man in 6 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. Prostate cancer is most common in older men, after age 40, however it is becoming more common for younger men to be diagnosed. African-American men and those with a family history of the disease are at a higher risk. If caught early, prostate cancer is highly curable, however, chemotherapy and other treatments can affect the reproductive system and fertility. There is often a small window of time for these men to preserve their fertility; therefore, access to cryopreservation services is extremely important. Both the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) recommend the education of oncology patients about the options available to preserve their fertility.

ReproTech, Ltd has organized the Fertility Preservation Network to educate oncology professionals and caretakers, as well as provide the much needed cryopreservation services for men and women. The network now includes members in 33 states and the Caribbean. Additionally, the work of fertileHOPE and LiveSTRONG has advanced the awareness of the need for Fertility Preservation among the oncology community.

Earlier in June, ReproTech’s Reno office participated in local restaurant Burger ME’s fundraiser to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and on June 3, in honor of National Cancer Survivors Day, ReproTech sponsored its Fertility Preservation Network Manager and family and friends in St. Joseph’s/Candler Survive the Five…K in Savannah, GA, to benefit local cancer survivors and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

ReproTech regularly sponsors or contributes funds to cancer fundraising events in the areas where its employees and three regional facilities reside, Ft. Lauderdale/Coconut Creek, Florida; Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota; and Reno, Nevada. Previous cancer fundraising events sponsored by ReproTech, Ltd. include various Race for the Cure and Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PANCAN) events, Lance Armstrong Foundation events and many other local events benefitting cancer survivors and research.
