HR People & Strategy, SHRM Release New Book for HR Employees and Students

Chicago, IL, June 22, 2012 --(PR.com)-- HR People & Strategy (HRPS) and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) today jointly released a new book called Point Counterpoint: New Perspectives on People & Strategy.

Based on the popular “Perspectives” section in the award-winning quarterly HRPS People & Strategy journal, the book contains 13 sets of debates addressing the five HRPS pillars of HR knowledge: talent management, organizational effectiveness, leadership development, HR strategy & planning and building a strategic HR function.

In addition, a learning guide accompanies each set of articles to facilitate easy and effective discussion with employees, organization leaders and students.

“The Point Counterpoint: New Perspectives on People & Strategy book offers a unique opportunity for HR professionals to educate themselves on the key concepts and tools that are central to our 21st century HR practice.

“These foundational HR tools are presented from different points of view which allows the reader to independently discover the right solution for themselves,” said Anna A. Tavis, Ph.D., book editor and head of global talent management at Brown Brothers Harriman.

“There can never be too many books out there to help HR professionals advance in their careers,” said Christopher Anzalone, manager of SHRM’s book publishing division. “SHRM is delighted to collaborate with HRPS to make the latest solutions-based HR book a reality.”

More than 120 authors, consultants, academics and practitioners from 14 countries contributed, including influential HR leaders such as Dave Ulrich, Ed Lawler, John Boudreau, Marcus Buckingham, Peter Cappelli, Daniel Goleman, Edgar Schein, Michael Beer, Lynda Gratton, Marshall Goldsmith, Peter Senge, and Charles Handy.

“If you’ve ever thought there must be another side to the HR advice you’re hearing, this is the book for you. Point Counterpoint: New Perspectives on People & Strategy is a terrific guide to the pluses and minuses of contemporary ideas,” said Peter Cappelli, HRPS Board of Directors, George W. Taylor Professor of Management at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and Director of Wharton’s Center for Human Resources.
