MUMC Joint Replacement Program Earns Premium Designation

Savannah, GA, June 29, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Memorial Bone & Joint, a center of excellence for joint replacement surgery and the treatment of orthopedic conditions at Memorial University Medical Center (MUMC), received UnitedHealth Premium® Total Joint Replacement specialty center designation for quality care. Memorial Bone & Joint received a "Three Star" quality assessment and a Cost Efficiency rating of "Higher Efficiency.” Both of these ratings are the highest awarded by UnitedHealthcare.

To earn the designation, MUMC met rigorous quality criteria based on nationally recognized medical standards and expert advice. The criteria included detailed information about specialized training, practice capabilities, and outcomes reporting.

“The UnitedHealth Premium designation recognizes our commitment to leading-edge technology, minimally invasive options, patient and family centered care, and an expert team of professionals. These elements make us a leader in joint replacement surgery,” said Robert “Dow” Hoffman, M.D., physician champion for Memorial Bone & Joint and a surgeon at Chatham Orthopaedic Associates.

UnitedHealthcare developed the UnitedHealth Premium Specialty Center designation to give its members information about and access to joint replacement care hospitals that meet rigorous quality standards.
