Raleigh, NC, July 07, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Don Safrit, PE, senior technical specialist with McKim & Creed, won the President’s Award at the annual conference of the Professional Engineers of North Carolina (PENC). The conference was held June 21-22 in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. Approximately 120 attended the event.

The President’s Award is chosen each year by the outgoing PENC president and given to a PENC member who has made the most substantial contribution to the organization during the president’s year of service.

In making the presentation to Safrit, PENC President Marc Worth said, “This year’s award is being given to someone who has really gone above and beyond as committee chair and in all areas of public policy support to PENC. Don Safrit with McKim & Creed has been chair of PENC’s legislative committee for the past two years. Don has quickly distinguished himself not only as the expert in water reuse issues, but now in the area of hydrofracking. He singlehandedly put together some of the best sessions on this subject that were presented to us this morning. In addition, Don wrote the feature article for our recently published PENC magazine and has contributed his own presentations to the PENC Central Carolina chapter and many of our statewide conferences.”

Safrit has more than 25 years’ experience in water quality engineering, including 13 years with the N.C. Division of Water Quality. He is a regulatory committee member of the WateReuse Association, a member of the NC AWWA-WEA water reuse committee, and chair of the N.C. Chamber’s environmental concerns policy committee. He has also served as a director of the PENC’s Central Carolina Chapter, and was sworn in as a statewide PENC director at the 2012 conference.

At McKim & Creed, Safrit helps manage the planning and implementation of water reuse systems and programs, as well as regulatory compliance aspects of water/wastewater systems.
