DataBackupReviews.com Releases Computer Backup Watchlist 2012

CrashPlan, SpiderOak, MyPC Backup, BackBlaze, and Penny Backup have been selected as the top 5 computer backup companies to watch for 2012 by moderator of online backup community DataBackupReviews.com.

Baltimore, MD, July 09, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The five most promising computer backup providers have been chosen and ranked by DataBackupReviews.com in their annual watchlist. Each summer, the editors of the data backup review website analyze what every backup company is doing to foster innovation within the industry or otherwise improve the options available to consumers.

For 2012, the top five consists of CrashPlan, SpiderOak, MyPC Backup, BackBlaze, and Penny Backup. Each company has either made news already this year or is poised to make a mark in the online backup or cloud computing space.

Competition was fierce this year. “I believe 2012 is the year when almost all computer users will be using backup software,” says Jerry Wayne, moderator of www.DataBackupReviews.com.

Computer backup services provide software for users to back up their important documents to a separate hard drive, storage media, or remote location in a secure manner. Should trouble arise, users can then restore their data from the backups, usually in just a single mouse-click.

CrashPlan
Though CrashPlan was launched in 2007, it has become popular more recently and has an opportunity to provide secure, remote backup for virtually everyone with internet access.

It takes the top spot due to the unique feature allowing you to use a friend’s computer for remote backup free of charge.

SpiderOak
Not only does SpiderOak combine online backup and file sync into one simple program, they operate under a “zero-knowledge privacy policy,” which highlights their commitment to secure storage.

MyPC Backup
The youngest service to make the list, MyPC Backup made a splash early in 2012 and has already won multiple awards. With a good combination of useful features and low prices, they may become a dominant player soon.

BackBlaze
BackBlaze has always had a good product, billing itself as the only “no-configuration” online backup service. It was their continuing support of World Backup Day and their mission to spread backup everywhere that landed them on this list.

Penny Backup
The most interesting new service, Penny Backup provides its backup software free of charge, only charging for storage space. Theoretically a 10GB account would cost a mere $0.89 per month.

Many computer backup solutions are available, but only five could make the list this year. Anyone ready to start backing up their files and folders is advised to surf the web and read user reviews before making a purchase.
