Santa Cruz, CA, July 11, 2012 --(PR.com
)-- Jordana Paige, the handbag and knitwear design company, will hold a special fundraising event in July to fund education, raise public awareness and improve treatment for preeclampsia.
The company will hold Purses for Preeclampsia — A Sale to Honor Cooper and Benefit the Preeclampsia Foundation on July 18. Jordana Paige will sell its imperfect bags for about half the retail cost and donate all the proceeds to the Preeclampsia Foundation, a non-profit organization serving the 300,000 women in the United States who suffer from preeclampsia each year.
Preeclampsia is a disorder characterized by high blood pressure that occurs only during pregnancy and the postpartum period and affects both the mother and the unborn baby.
Globally, preeclampsia and other hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are a leading cause of maternal and infant illness and death, according to the Preeclampsia Foundation.
Jordana McVey, the owner of the company, and her family experienced this pain when her sister lost her son because of preeclampsia.
“It is in memory of Cooper that I am doing this fundraiser to raise both money for the Preeclampsia Foundation and awareness of this horrific disease,” McVey said. “The response from my previous fundraiser was overwhelming, and I hope to have that kind of impact again.”
Jordana Paige raised more than $15,000 in a similar fundraising effort for Doctors Without Borders Haiti Relief after the devastating earthquake in 2010.
The sale will start at 8 a.m. PST and a new handbag will be announced each hour, which can be purchased online. For more information about the sale, the company and the foundation, visit jordanapaige.com.
