Virginia Beach, VA, July 28, 2012 --(PR.com)-- From a foggy Memorial Day crossing of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, 14 veterans with disabilities have ridden across America by bicycle, hand cycle and recumbent. Through snow showers and cold in Nevada to blistering heat in Kansas and Missouri to rain in Pennsylvania and Maryland, these veterans have ridden more than 3,500 miles in two months. On July 28, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, this courageous team will reach the Atlantic Ocean and their journey’s conclusion.

Presented by State Farm, the Sea to Shining Sea ride from World T.E.A.M. Sports brings together disabled veterans from all branches of the military. Participants in wars and conflicts from Vietnam to Afghanistan and Iraq, the team has met and greeted Americans in 14 states and the District of Columbia. They have shared home-cooked meals, visited area attractions and joined with other veterans in learning about the nation and the people they defended in their service.

Through their service to the nation, many of these veterans sustained injuries ranging from amputations to blindness to Post Traumatic Stress. Other team members battled life-threatening illnesses such as cancer. For each, the crossing of America at ten miles an hour has been a life-changing experience that will stay with them for the remainder of their lives.

On Saturday, July 28, the team rides to the Virginia Beach boardwalk, dip their front wheels into the Atlantic, and complete a bicycle journey across America. They’ll be joined by family, friends and the public who will celebrate their remarkable accomplishment.

The Sea to Shining Sea ride is supported through generous sponsorships by State Farm, American Portfolios, MWV, Dominion, the Semper Fi Foundation, the USO, BNY – Mellon, General Electric, GM Fleet and Commercial, Brown Shoe Company and Famous Footwear, Energizer Holdings, Altria, EnerSys, Occidental Petroleum, Magaschoni Apparel, Penske Truck Rental, AR Capital, Vedder Price, the El Pomar Foundation and George Puskar.
