Imperial Systems Reduces Risk and Engineers Dust Collection for an FRP Composites Manufacturer

Jackson Center, PA, August 01, 2012 --(PR.com)-- For over a decade, Imperial Systems, Inc. has built a reputation as a full-service dust collection and air pollution control equipment manufacturer and installation specialist. Imperial also excels at engineering systems for complex environments, and recently completed a custom system for a major fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) manufacturer. “This application for our new flagship model CM-40 CMAXX cartridge-type dust collector and Imperial High-Speed Abort Gate was both exciting and challenging for our team,” reports Jeremiah Wann, President and CEO, Imperial Systems.

Although many companies still don’t meet OSHA requirements, this producer committed to reducing the risk of fire proactively, and decided to work with Imperial on an “upgrade to a more stringent level of NFPA compliance,” according to the plant’s manufacturing engineer. “Our customer was intent on meeting all NFPA requirements, and the CMAXX system was deployed to service fiber glass cutting and CNC milling equipment within a non-centralized manufacturing facility,” Wann says.

Selecting the right technologies to fulfill these objectives was a key deliverable for the project. Imperial equipped the system with GreCon spark detection and extinguishment technology, an infrared system that detects sparks or fires, and uses atomized water nozzles to quench the hazard ‘on the move’ thus preventing fire development. “Although our risk was on the low end, we couldn’t ignore it, and we chose an Imperial system with the all the ‘bells & whistles’. This decision gives us tremendous confidence in protecting our facility and workforce,” the plant engineer comments.

In addition, Imperial had to design a balanced dust collection system capable of servicing a roughly L-shaped facility, and provide air flow to capture points within the system. “This required calculating the air velocity necessary to service all areas of our non-centralized plant, including a distantly located fabrication area,” the engineer says. “In one application, Imperial was required to overcome the challenge of conveying dust through a small diameter hose over a long distance, and their ability to supplement existing infrastructure was impressive – they saved us money,” he claims. “We’ve not only overcome previous deficiencies in our dust extraction, Imperial has also helped us improve our air quality, and that’s an unexpected operational bonus,” he concludes, adding “We’re very satisfied with the results.”
