Lexington, KY, August 11, 2012 --(PR.com
)-- Alternative fitness has been getting a lot of recognition lately. Pole sport made a huge bid to be included in the 2012 Olympics and is already starting the push for inclusion in the 2016 games. Also, hula hooping, or “hoop dance”, was featured by Julie Zetlin, an American rhythmic gymnast, in this year’s games. Now Lexington is home to a studio that specializes in both skill sets.
Defiance Studios has been showing people how much more interesting a workout can be since they opened their doors on July 7th. Both men and women are learning the strength it takes to spin, climb, slide, and flip on the pole, all while improving self-image and having fun. Hoop dance classes are a great low-impact cardio and strength workout that also takes dancers back to their childhood, reliving the days of twirling their Wham-O hula hoop for hours on end.
You can check out these classes for yourself on Saturday, September 8th at the Defiance Studios Grand Opening event. There will be demo classes, light refreshments, prizes, performances, and a “pole and hoop jam” for the more experienced guests. The doors open at noon. Classes and performances will be spread throughout the day and the jam begins at 3:30pm. It will cost $5 to participate in the pole and hoop jam, with all proceeds going to Susan G. Komen’s “Passionately Pink for the Cure” program. Donations will also be accepted throughout the event. If you cannot make it to the event but would still like to donate to the cause you can do so by visiting http://www.info-komen.org/goto/defiancelex.
Defiance Studios is located in Woodhill Circle Plaza at 1555 East New Circle Road, Suite 182, Lexington, KY 40509.
