Alternative Fitness Defies Mundane Exercise Routines. New Business Teaches Pole Fitness and Hula Hoop Dancing, Offers Lexingtonians Unique Workout Options
A new Lexington business offers instruction in alternative dance and fitness crazes that have swept the country. Their grand opening will be September 8th and will double as a fund raiser for Susan G. Komen's "Passionately Pink for the Cure" program. The event will include demo classes, refreshments, prizes, and performances.
Defiance Studios has been showing people how much more interesting a workout can be since they opened their doors on July 7th. Both men and women are learning the strength it takes to spin, climb, slide, and flip on the pole, all while improving self-image and having fun. Hoop dance classes are a great low-impact cardio and strength workout that also takes dancers back to their childhood, reliving the days of twirling their Wham-O hula hoop for hours on end.
You can check out these classes for yourself on Saturday, September 8th at the Defiance Studios Grand Opening event. There will be demo classes, light refreshments, prizes, performances, and a “pole and hoop jam” for the more experienced guests. The doors open at noon. Classes and performances will be spread throughout the day and the jam begins at 3:30pm. It will cost $5 to participate in the pole and hoop jam, with all proceeds going to Susan G. Komen’s “Passionately Pink for the Cure” program. Donations will also be accepted throughout the event. If you cannot make it to the event but would still like to donate to the cause you can do so by visiting http://www.info-komen.org/goto/defiancelex.
Defiance Studios is located in Woodhill Circle Plaza at 1555 East New Circle Road, Suite 182, Lexington, KY 40509.
