SBM’s Social Responsibility Program Offers “The Gift of Time” to Employees in Need

SBM, a single source facilities maintenance organization has announced the formalization of a companywide program, "The Gift of Time," which allows managers to donate unused vacation time to employees in need.

Sacramento, CA, August 16, 2012 --(PR.com)-- SBM, a single source facilities maintenance organization, has announced the company wide rollout of its formalized employee program, “The Gift of Time.”

The innovative program exchanges manager-level employees’ unused vacation time donations for monetary gifts to employees facing serious hardships and life-threatening illness. The employees, nominated by their respective managers, are then presented with the monetary equivalent of up to 200 hours of donated time, paid at the salary level of each donor.

The program was originally piloted in 2010, when a Seattle-based employee’s diagnosis required long periods of absence from work. SBM managers were moved to contact Human Resources to offer their own vacation in order to alleviate the financial strain the absences caused. SBM’s Employee Relationship Manager, Sonia Trinidad, stepped in and proposed what is now “The Gift of Time” program. Since then, SBM employees have donated more than $37,000 to help seven employees on their road to recovery.

“We are proud to be able to provide assistance to those facing life-altering circumstances. The outpouring of support has been so touching,” said Trinidad, who has taken the lead in formalizing the program companywide. “It’s incredible to be able to bring hope to those who need it most.”

Founded on the guiding principal that SBM employees are its most valuable assets, SBM’s social responsibility commitment begins within the SBM family and extends to the communities in which it operates.
