Colorful iPad 2 Protection is a Snap with Bayer MaterialScience

Bayer’s high-flow, UV-rated polycarbonate and color capabilities contribute to Snap Shield Perforation case design.

Pittsburgh, PA, August 25, 2012 --(PR.com)-- With millions of iPad 2 tablet devices now in homes and offices worldwide, there is strong consumer demand for cases that will protect the tablets from damage, while also providing customization options.

Belkin International’s Snap Shield Perforation case provides iPad 2 users with a case unlike any other. The case provides full access to all of the iPad 2’s controls and ports, while providing scratch- and impact-resistant protection. Weighing 10.4 ounces and measuring 8.5 x 0.6 x 11 inches, the grey-colored case features a unique perforated pattern on its back surface. This enables users to swap out different colored inserts (green, blue, pink and orange) to match their Smart Cover. With the inserts, iPad 2 users can easily change the look of their case to match their mood, the season or even their outfit. Bayer MaterialScience LLC provided assistance with material selection for the inserts and the case itself. The variety of colors is made possible thanks to Bayer color technologies, which provided color development support.

“For consumer products, customization is the name of the game,” said Bruce Fine, market segment leader, Medical and Consumer Products - Polycarbonates, Bayer MaterialScience LLC. “By molding the case and its colorful inserts with Bayer’s Makrolon® polycarbonate, Belkin International is able to give consumers what they want most: a way to protect and personalize their iPad devices at the same time.”

The intricate but tough protective case and the colored inserts utilize Bayer’s Makrolon® 2207 polycarbonate. This high-flow plastic has easy-release properties and is well suited for general applications that require a durable, heat-stable material. It also lends itself to projects requiring thin wall molding.

“Both the material and associated support provided by Bayer MaterialScience, enabled our product vision to become a reality,” said Patrick Sullivan, director of product management, Belkin International Inc. Belkin International’s Snap Shield Perforation case for the iPad 2 is currently available for purchase on Amazon.com, as well as at Office Max, Meijer and Fry’s.
