Bayer MaterialScience Plant Achieves ISO 14001 Certification

Baytown plant’s certifications confirm environmentally responsible and quality-driven operations

Baytown, TX, August 31, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Demonstrating Bayer MaterialScience LLC’s long-standing commitment to sustainability and the environment, Bayer’s Baytown, Texas, plant has achieved an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 certification. The certification confirms that the Baytown site supports and sustains environmentally responsible operations through its management systems.

“Attaining the ISO 14001 certification helps to assure our customers and stakeholders that we have an effective environmental management system in place while also continuing Bayer’s commitment to maintain sustainable practices,” said Rod Herrick, Baytown general site manager. “This most recent validation of our environmental systems was accomplished at the same time we re-certified our quality management systems through ISO 9001.”

The certifications were achieved through a week-long, third-party audit by DQS – a management assessment firm from Germany. Auditors visited all business units at the site to ensure the international standards were met.

According to ISO, benefits of being ISO 14001 certified include savings in consumption of energy and materials, and lower distribution costs.

To ensure the Baytown site maintains both certificates, it will be externally audited every three years. In addition to the external audits, the site will conduct internal audits to continuously look for ways to improve its management systems.
