)-- North Side Housing & Supportive Services (NSHSS) will hold its 29th Annual Benefit Dinner, themed Beyond the Boundaries of Homelessness, on Saturday, September 29th, 6:00 p.m. at Maggiano’s Little Italy, 516 N. Clark Street. The host will be Valerie Warner, co-host of ABC Channel 7’s “Windy City Live!” The dinner is an event that brings together hundreds of the area’s most prominent leaders, partners and supporters to connect, celebrate, and support North Side’s mission of ending homelessness in the city. Attendees will come from Chicagoland, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan.
Alderman James Cappleman (46th Ward) will be presented with the Community Impact Award for his dedication to empowering the Uptown community and helping to eradicate homelessness in the city. The keynote address will be given by State Representative Sara Feigenholtz (D-12th District), who is well known for her leadership role in advocacy and dedication to the long-term health of Illinois’ citizens, neighborhoods and the economy. The evening will also include a reception and silent auction. A wide variety of items will be auctioned: two round-trip tickets on Southwest Airlines, Chicago Bulls tickets, hotel for two at the Hyatt Regency, foursome golfing at Silver Lake Country Club, spa gift certificates, watch from Norridge Jewelers, Chicago Symphony Orchestra tickets to "The Rite of Spring," Chicago Sky tickets and Lyric Opera of Chicago tickets to see "La Bohème," and more. Sponsors for the 2012 Annual Benefit Dinner thus far are: First Nonprofit Insurance Agency, McGuireWoods, Family Dollar and North Community Bank. "It’s a tough time for nonprofits as we struggle with a weakened economy," said Geraldine Palmer, Ph.D, Executive Director of NSHSS located in Lakeview and Uptown. “Thanks to a dedicated board and staff who are passionate about their work, we have been able to maintain our core programs. We continue our goal of serving clients who are homeless, veterans, persons with disabilities and of addressing the growing issue of hunger.” Dr. Palmer added that the annual benefit is an opportunity to highlight the organization’s work, as well as to learn success stories from clients.
For nearly 30 years, NSHSS has been an advocate and provider of programs and compassionate services to individual who are homeless. Founded by a group of neighborhood churches concerned about this growing population, the organization has garnered the respect and support of the community and is often turned to as an expert in its field. It is well-respected for its track record and dignified treatment of individuals experiencing homelessness. North Side collaborates with a number of organizations, private foundations, and government entities to offer a roster of programs and services.
