Attorney Joins Cary-Based Law Firm to Assist Its Intellectual Property Litigation Team

Cary, NC, October 05, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Coats + Bennett, PLLC (http://www.coatsandbennett.com), an intellectual property law firm, has announced that James R. Lawrence, III has joined the firm as an associate. In this position, Lawrence works directly with the intellectual property litigation team and is responsible for preparing briefs for clients at the trial and appellate level in both state and federal court and drafting contracts and correspondences.

Lawrence earned his Juris Doctor with honors from the University of North Carolina School of Law in May 2012, passed the North Carolina Bar Exam in July 2012, and was sworn in to practice on Tuesday, Sept. 18. While in law school, Lawrence completed clerkships for Coats + Bennett, the United States Food and Drug Administration, Justice Paul M. Newby of the North Carolina Supreme Court, and worked in-house at Merz Pharmaceuticals. In those positions, Lawrence gained critical experience and expertise that continues to assist him in his IP litigation practice.

While in law school, Lawrence was a member of the North Carolina Law Review staff during his second year of law school and served as an Articles Editor on the publication’s board of editors during his third year. Lawrence’s student comment for the Law Review was published and won the William T. Joyner Award for Excellence in Journal Writing, the journal’s top honor for student scholarship. In addition, Lawrence was actively involved in the UNC chapter of the Federalist Society.

Lawrence received his bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from North Carolina State University where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society. After graduating, Lawrence worked at a boutique management consultancy before joining Accenture, one of the largest management consulting firms in the world. As a consultant, he worked with a variety of clients in the healthcare industry, including pharmaceutical, medical device, and health insurance companies. Lawrence is an active member of the Licensing Executives Society and the Federalist Society. Originally from Raleigh, Lawrence resides in Cary with his wife, Amy.
