)-- CrossFit SOAR Hosts Barbells for Boobs Workout & Fundraiser for Breast Cancer
On October 13, 2012 at 10 am EST, athletes from CrossFit SOAR will be joining CrossFitter around the world in performing a special team workout, with the aim of raising funds for breast cancer charity Barbells for Boobs. Last year, there were 232,620 cases of breast cancer detected, 7% of those were in women under the age of 40.
“This event has personal significance for me, as both my mother and sister-in-law survived breast cancer. In fact, without the medical advances made over the last 5 years, my sister-in-law would not be alive today. It’s my hope that this event will help raise awareness for a great cause - and in the process we’ll have some fun, and get fit!” said Dave Whitson, Head Trainer at CrossFit SOAR.
Donations can be made at https://support.barbellsforboobs.org/group-fundraising/crossfitSOAR/. Spectators are welcome. The workout is called “Helen Meets Grace.” This is a two-person team workout with one person working at a time, except for the 400m runs, which must be performed together. As with all CrossFit workouts, everything is scaleable (all CrossFit SOAR athletes started with PVC pipes before lifting heavier weights).
Helen consists of three rounds of: 400 meter run (both partners run together); 21 kettlebell swings; (Rx 53/35#) and 12 pull-ups. Partners can tag-team in and out of the kettlebell swings and/or pull-ups as needed. Once all three rounds of Helen are complete, the team immediately moves on to perform Grace which consists of 30 clean and jerks (Rx 135/95#) as fast as possible, partitioned in any fashion between the two team members. The score is the total time for the team to complete both workouts.
