Be First to Take a Fly-Cruise to the Canary Islands with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines

Suffolk, United Kingdom, October 19, 2012 --(PR.com)-- After a disappointing summer weather-wise and the prospect of winter on the way, many of us will long for warmer climates and sunny skies. Why not plan a post-Christmas getaway, with one of the brand new Fred. Olsen Canaries’ fly-cruises, aboard cruise ship Braemar? The ship will be based in Santa Cruz, Tenerife, from January to March 2013, operating a varied and delightful selection of itineraries around the Canaries, Cape Verde Islands and West Africa.

The outward voyage, M1301FC, "South to the Sun," departs on 6th January 2013 – Twelfth Night – with a voyage from Southampton. This seven-night cruise includes three leisurely days at sea; perfect for recuperating after the hectic festive season. First port of call is the lovely "Garden Isle" of Madeira. Compact enough to explore on foot, the island has some fine museums, and its climate and rich soil allow for some exquisite gardens. Next Braemar visits Santa Cruz, La Palma. Once an important trading post, the island has a legacy of palaces, colonial buildings and merchants’ houses in the Old Quarter, with many welcoming cafés and bars to relax in.

Next is the largest island, Gran Canaria, with the ship docking in Las Palmas. This popular island offers year-round sunshine and many fine beaches. It also has an interesting history; in Plaza Santa Ana there are bronze statues of dogs, referencing the Romans naming the islands after legendary canines. The final port of call is Santa Cruz, Tenerife; from here, guests will fly back to the UK on an exclusive, fully escorted Fred. Olsen charter.

Prices for this appealing "winter warmer" cruise start from just £459 per person, based on two adults sharing in inside, twin cabin, Grade ‘I’, subject to availability. This price includes all meals and entertainment on board and port taxes, as well as the homeward flight, transfers and airport taxes.

A great example of the diversity of the cruises is Braemar’s next departure; M1302FC, a cruise of 11 nights. "A Voyage to the Tropics and Africa" departs from London-Gatwick and Manchester on 13th January 2013, to join Braemar in Tenerife. This cruise visits Dakar in Senegal, made famous by the Paris-Dakar Rally, and a feast for the senses, with its many arts festivals, then travels on to Banjul in the Gambia, where you can visit the beaches, enjoy a relaxing river trip, or revel in the colourful bustle of the marketplace. After a relaxing day at sea, Braemar then reaches the Cape Verde Islands, calling at Praia and Mindelo; these lesser known Atlantic Islands offer a host of surprises. Two more pleasant sea days bring Braemar back to Santa Cruz, her home port for the winter season.

Prices for this cruise start from £999 per person, based on two adults sharing an inside, twin cabin, Grade ‘I’, subject to availability. As with the previous cruise, the price includes all meals and entertainment on board; it also includes return flights, transfers and airport taxes.

Braemar’s third Canaries fly-cruise of the season includes an exotic element, with a visit to sunny Morocco as part of the itinerary. Cruise M1303FC, "Sun & Souks," is a ten-night fly-cruise departing on 24th January 2013. Flying to Tenerife, guests have a first day here to explore this lovely island. Next port of call is El Hierro, the most southerly of the Canary Islands, and less well-known than its larger sisters; the cruise also visits La Gomera and La Palma, before an overnight stay in Madeira, so guests can enjoy evening time ashore. Next port of call is Agadir, Morocco’s premier beach resort. The ancient Kasbah here dates back to 1540, with the ancient, fortified walls still standing. The sights and sounds of the old town, with its bustling markets, are a feast for the senses. Next port is lovely Lanzarote, before Braemar returns to Tenerife for the flights home. Prices for this "sunshine special" cruise start from just £899 per person, based on two adults, sharing an inside twin cabin, Grade I, subject to availability.

Nathan Philpot, Sales & Marketing Director for Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said: "We are very excited to be offering these winter sunshine fly-cruises; they will appeal especially to our guests who yearn for a winter getaway, but don’t have time for a longer cruise. With the recent hikes in fuel prices, it could be better value for money to take a cruise than to stay at home – and a lot more fun!"
