A Wish Come True for the Founder of the Make-A-Wish Foundation

Loral Langemeier Raises $40,000 for Frank Shankwtiz, the co-founder of the Make-A-Wish Foundation at a recent event.

San Diego, CA, October 19, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Over thirty years ago, when Frank Shankwitz granted the first wish for a child, he began a life devoted to making the wishes of sick children come true. Shankwitz has given everything, quite literally, to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, of which he is the Co-Founder. Approaching retirement he has saved little, choosing rather to donate his money and time to the wishes of the children he serves. That’s where Loral Langemeier came in. On October 3, 2012, at the Secret Knock event in San Diego, California, Langemeier raised $40,000 for Shankwitz’s “personal retirement fund.” This contribution paid back the man who has done so much to bring joy to the lives of children who suffer from life-threatening illnesses.

“In my eyes, Frank Shankwitz is a true hero. This man has provided so many smiles to the faces of children who so desperately need to smile. When I learned he was in need, I felt compelled to turn-the-tables and help a wish come true for him,” said Langemeier. At the event, Langemeier joined in an impromptu auction, donating four trips to Australia to attend her Three Days to Cash workshop. The trips, which included airfare, four nights’ accommodation and tickets to the workshop, were purchased by four buyers for $10,000 each. The money raised was given to Shankwitz.

Shankwitz, a former Arizona Highway Patrol Officer, founded the Make-A-Foundation after granting the wish of a seven year-old boy named Chris who, while dying of leukemia, dreamed of becoming a Highway Patrol Officer. Frank made his wish come true a few days before Chris succumbed to his illness. Thirty two years later, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has grown to 63 chapters in the United States and 31 chapters in other countries, covering five continents. Over 250,000 wishes have been granted so far. Now one more wish has been granted. Yet this time the wish come true is for the man who has selflessly helped so many.
