Help Feed the Hungry in Virginia With Patrick Buick GMC Drive Away Hunger Event

Patrick Buick GMC in Ashland is a designated drop-off location for the 2012 Drive Away Hunger campaign, helping FeedMore and the Central Virginia Food Bank.

Ashland, VA, October 28, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Time is running out to join Patrick Buick GMC in the fight against hunger in Virginia. Until October 31, the Buick GMC dealership in Ashland is a designated drop-off location for the 2012 Drive Away Hunger campaign, helping FeedMore and the Central Virginia Food Bank.

The Greater Richmond New Car Dealers Association participates annually in Drive Away Hunger month to benefit central Virginia food banks. Last year, enough food and monetary donations were collected during the month to provide hungry local children, families, elderly and disabled with 208,921 meals. They encourage you to continue the tradition of giving by bringing nonperishable food donations to Patrick Buick GMC in Ashland.

The FeedMore organization includes the smaller groups Central Virginia Food Bank, Community Kitchen, and the area Meals on Wheels chapter. These groups provided 31 counties and five cities in Virginia with food for the needy, including those with economic hardships and the elderly or others with difficulty leaving their homes or preparing their own meals. More than 11 million meals were distributed by these groups last year. In addition, they help to connect people in need of food with those who can provide it through the Hunger Hotline (804-521-2500).

Other programs that benefit from the Drive Away Hunger event include BackPacks, Kids Café, and the Community Kitchen Summer Feeding Program. BackPacks steps in to help feed school children, who often get their two main meals of the day from school meal programs, by supplying them with backpacks of food to take home on weekends. Kids Café provides five meals a week after school or in the summer for children ages 5 to 17. Five weeks of BackPacks or one month of Kids Café meals for one child can be purchased with just one $50 donation.

The Community Kitchen Summer Feeding program also steps in to serve breakfast and lunch each weekday to an average of 2,500 children during the summer months when they don’t have school meals to rely upon. The Community Kitchen also works daily, year-round, using quality ingredients, preparing meals for 17 special dietary restrictions for over 1,800 Meals on Wheels clients. 200 pounds of food for the distribution center or two full weeks of nutritious meals the homebound can be provided with a donation of just $50.

The annual Drive Away Hunger campaign has always been successful, but FeedMore anticipates drastically increasing needs this year, including a 20% rise in the number of meals provided to children. Please bring your donations to Patrick Buick GMC in Ashland, Virginia (www.patrickashland.com), and they will be delivered where they are most needed. Items most in demand include canned meats, canned tuna and salmon, canned fruits and vegetables, pasta and rice, pasta sauce, hot and cold cereals, and peanut butter.

To show appreciation of your support for the cause and make sure generous donors feed themselves, too, any donation of five items or more will receive a free combo meal from Chik-Fil-A (at their location only).
