Cumulus Funding CEO to Speak at E^3 Conference

Chicago consumer finance company proudly begins making “investments in the American worker.”

Chicago, IL, October 28, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Nathan Popkins, Founder and CEO of Cumulus Funding, is scheduled to speak at the E^3 Entrepreneurial Roundtable on Monday, October 29 at 6:00 PM, an event sponsored by the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.

The conference will focus on the start-up stories of three new, innovative financial services companies, focusing on the specific challenges each has faced. The conference will be discussion-based, with audience members encouraged to provide their viewpoints and advice.

Mister Popkins started Cumulus Funding in 2011, in response to the fundamental misalignment of interests between borrower and lender, introducing an equity-like structure that invests in individuals. Cumulus Funding provides capital to individuals in exchange for a percentage of their future earnings over a fixed period of time. This structure, known in the academic community as a Human Capital Contract, is much better-tailored to each consumer’s changing financial situation, as compared to a loan, and is thought by some to be the future of consumer finance. Human Capital Contracts have been advocated by many policy makers and researchers, including Nobel Prize winning economists Milton Friedman, Bob Merton and Gary Becker.

Alongside Cumulus Funding, the social innovation companies SoFi and AlumTalks will be showcasing their unique start-up experiences.
