Search Engine Metro5 Closes 15 Million Euro Financial Round

Search Engine Metro5 raises €15.000.000 (15 Million) in its first round of financing.

New York, NY, November 09, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Metro5, a company specialized in search technology development raised €15.000.000 (15 Million) in its first round of financing. The funds will be dedicated to satisfy an increasing search demand from customers and to continue the development of Metro5.

"Metro5 is proud to announce that all funds were made available by family members of the De Mol family. That being said, there was no need to look out for non-family investors, which is great news, as it shows that you still can launch a privately backed family business these days," Jan De Mol, Metro5's owner and head developer said.

Metro5 launched its first public BETA version on October 18th 2012. Since then, Metro5 already serves more than 120.000 search queries per day, which is an impressive amount for a project which has launched recently.

Metro5 is not just "yet another search engine." Metro5 is a unique search engine which ranks websites by social importance. Metro5 enables users to vote for or against websites, which influences the search engine's ranking algorithm.

Each search result shows a link which reads "Rank this Site" below the actual result. When a Metro5 visitor clicks the link, he is able to rate the website. It is possible to flag a website as spam, content farm, useful, or not so useful website.

More information about Metro5's social ranking features can be found at http://metro5.com/about.

Metro5 is currently available as BETA project, but given the recent financial round, it is expected to see Metro5 as a "final product" by early 2013.

"We are currently doing the math to see which areas of our project requires financing most. The first step will be acquiring additional hardware and possibly hiring more staff to deal with client support. Metro5 is still an experiment and time will tell if a search engine like Metro5 will be accepted, or if the future of search will be different. Whatever the future will show, Metro5 will be able to adapt to future demands and work hard on satisfying customers by delivering the results they expect," Jan De Mol added.
