Black Transmen, Inc is making a reputation as a beacon to a movement that is removing barriers and building coalitions that will help enhance the quality of life for thousands of people. The 2nd Annual Advocacy Conference will address disparities with resolutions, featuring comprehensive training workshops on leadership, alliance and community building, a Career Fair and a Health and HIV/AIDS Fair. Seminars for transmen, transwomen, youth, aging and spouses continue to inspire a positive, national social movement that crusades for equality, nurtures the human experience and uplifts transgender communities. As BTMI deepens its partnership with its sister group, Black Transwomen, it is anticipated that many more women will be in attendance to share knowledge, education, and stories of both struggle and success.
As the first national non-profit organization advocating for the needs of African American transgender people, BTMI hopes to remain an indispensible resource providing reliable outlets of support for the trans-identified community. Through encouraging healthy identity growth, education, and advocacy, the organizational aim is to “Become the change you want to see in the world”, as their motto states. “Educating and encouraging individuals to have pride, security and confidence in themselves”, says Brown “is a crucial component to our united effort to reface negative images of ourselves and our communities. As Black men and women of trans experience,” Brown continued, “choosing to live freely, often comes at a precarious costs. We not only heighten our adversity as double or triple minorities in greater society, but even within the African American community. We have the power to change this and our time is now!”
The four-day conference is comprised of powerful workshops and lively entertainment, all geared towards empowering the transgender community and educating our greater social community in the area of Gender & Sexual Identity and social change. Entertainment highlights for the event include TransManifest Live!, an incomparable showcase from the SLGBTQIH community boasting talents of singing, spoken word, comedy and more! Also, back by demand, the Boyz to Men Mini Ball with new, exciting categories. Don’t miss the most impressive black-tie affair, the Black Transmen, Inc. Awards Dinner where pioneers, activists and trailblazers are honored for their work to move the community forward, dismantling impediments that deny human and legal rights. Enjoy an evening of enchantment dancing the night away encircled by a breathtaking panoramic view of the beautiful city lights. New conference events are planned to include The BTMI Book Fest featuring voices of LGBTQ authors, “Hats Off" Benefit Luncheon - Celebrating The Power of Women, A Meeting of the Minds – The Gentlemen’s Debate and our exquisite Mr. & Miss Black Transmen Inc pageant.
The conference is always free to registered guest and VIP privileges to BTMI members. Don’t miss this unforgettable experience.
