Casey Kia Joins Thousands to Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness

Thousands of walkers gathered in Newport News on October 27th to support breast cancer awareness and research. Casey Kia employees were proud to help such a worthy cause.

Newport News, VA, November 09, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Despite the threat of a hurricane looming, thousands of participants gathered at the Mariners’ Museum in Newport News October 28th for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Peninsula walk. Several of Casey Kia’s employees were among the numbers, and the Casey Auto Group sponsored a booth at the event.

The Peninsula walk helped raise close to $103,000 to benefit the American Cancer Society. Even though the walk itself is over, donations are still being accepted, so the total amount raised could equal much more. 2012 was the first year that Making Strides Against Breast Cancer held a walk on the Peninsula, but the turnout makes it likely to become an annual event.

Every year, the American Cancer Society holds over 270 Making Strides walks across the country. The walks usually range from three to five miles, depending on the location. Walkers are welcome as individuals or in teams, and are encouraged to get friends, family and coworkers to sponsor them to raise funds for breast cancer awareness and research. The American Cancer Society provides an online fundraising tool to make it easier for participants to reach their fundraising goals.

The first Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk took place in 1993. Since then, 8 million walkers have helped raise over $460 million to help in the fight against breast cancer.

Casey Kia was proud to see its employees taking part in a local event that supports such a worthy cause. For more information on other events Casey Kia is involved with, follow them on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/caseykia and on Twitter at http://twitter.com/casey_kia.
