The Spirit of Giving at The Auction House in Canton, Texas

Canton, TX, November 17, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Auction House in Canton, Texas, a client of The Rare Collections, auctions food, toys and other donated items for charity each Friday evening starting at 5:30pm. During the months of November and December, The Auction House is hosting special fundraisers for Loaves and Fishes, Toys for Tots and 14-year old Jaycie Cassidy, who has been hospitalized for more than 30 days.

Cassidy is suffering complications from Gastroschisis, a birth defect thought to have been corrected when she was 5-hours old. The condition has caused severe blockage for the now 14-year-old Jr. High Cheer Captain who has undergone several surgeries at Childrens' Hospital at both Plano and Dallas.

On Friday November 19th, a regular patron donated a 1942 Beretta Rifle with Bayonet that had the firing mechanism removed to be auctioned with 100% of the proceeds donated to help Miss. Cassidy. Auctioneer Kevin Sherrard announced, "This is going for our little 14-year-old waitress Jaycie Cassidy who has been in Children's Hospital for the past 27 days and she and her family really need help with all the expenses." The item was auctioned three times raising more than $300 for the Cassidy family before it was finally sold.

Patrons of The Auction House have donated several fine-quality firearms to be raffled over the next few weeks. Recipients must have a license or go through the regular legal process for purchasing firearms to win. November 16th will feature a bake sale of home-made cookies, cakes and treats being auctioned with 100% of all proceeds going to the Cassidy family.

The Auction House is also auctioning surplus non-perishable foods and seasonal farmer's market items weekly with many buyers immediately donating those items to Loaves and Fishes, a faith-based ministry, in partnership with East Texas Food Bank. Loaves and Fishes has worked to increase service from its initial 17 clients in 1996 to more than 150 households each week in 2012. Once more, all proceeds from donated sales go directly to the organization for operational and other expenses.

New packaged toys and accessories are also donated for The Auction House's annual Toys for Tots drive. "Last year we were able to provide enough toys to fill all the requests that came in for Van Zandt County and most of the requests that came in for Rains, Henderson, Wood and a good piece of Smith Counties," said Auctioneer Kevin Sherrard.

The Rare Collections asked Auctioneer Kevin Sherrard why he does so much giving at his auction house. He said very plainly, "I like it. It makes me feel good. After all, remember the words the Lord Jesus himself noted in Acts 20:35, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"
