Holiday Cheer for HABcore

Red Bank, NJ, December 20, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Sandy’s Elves Workshop, a community group created to help victims of super-storm Sandy, have selected HABcore Inc. residents in Monmouth and Ocean counties to receive gifts, decorations and Christmas trees this holiday season.

HABcore is a not-for-profit organization that provides housing for the homeless. All of the HABcore Independent Living Apartment residents were affected by Sandy, some to the extreme of losing all of their possessions and being displaced. Relocating residents and acquiring essential supplies has been HABcore’s priority since the storm.

“Nominating the residents to receive holiday items and gifts through Sandy’s Elves gave us the opportunity to give our residents something to celebrate this holiday season,” said Jaclyn Boffice, Director of Development, HABcore. According to Natalie Finley, co-founder of Sandy’s Elves Workshop, “none of this could have been done without grant money received from the Stafford Township Education Association (STEA) and the endless contributions from the Manahawkin Home Depot.”

Six and a half foot pre-lit Christmas trees were purchased with the STEA grant money and community members volunteered to create the holiday bins, including decorations and gifts, for each nominee. The Manahawkin Home Depot donated vans to ensure delivery to each recipient.

“Many of us who were fortunate enough to escape Sandy unaffected had a hard time watching our neighbors, friends, and family members lose so much. It was impossible to stand around and do nothing. My friend, and co-founder of Sandy’s Elves, Brianna Malley, and I brainstormed and thought what are these people going to do when the holidays come? So we came up with the idea of putting holiday bins together for these families. Then it just snowballed from there due to an overwhelming response from the community,” said Finley.
