Local Businesses Team Up to Support Cancer Patients and Children During the Holidays

Pinellas Park, FL, December 23, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Pinellas cancer treatment facility WellSpring Oncology is partnering with Pinellas County Walgreens drug stores to provide holiday gifts for cancer patients in need. The partnership comes just as the holiday shopping season kicks into high gear.

“Being diagnosed with this disease can be a very difficult time for many of our patients, not only medically and emotionally, but also financially,” says Lan Nguyen, Director of WellSpring Oncology. “Partnering with Walgreens has enabled us to help cancer patients in our community even more during the holidays, giving them the ability to buy things they need most."

The economic downturn and a steady rise in healthcare costs have resulted in an increased financial burden for many who are diagnosed with cancer. As a result, WellSpring Oncology established the Giving Tree fund, assisting cancer patients in financial need.

Through fundraisers and generous donations, the Giving Tree fund is able to help patients and their families year-round with things like housing payments, gas and groceries. And, every year, WellSpring Oncology “adopts” families to provide them a full Christmas experience.

This year, in addition to the adopted family, the partnership with Walgreens will help patients, as well as children in local organizations like Girls Inc. of Pinellas and children adopted by the City of Pinellas Park Fire Station 34.

“We’re happy to partner with WellSpring Oncology as we’re both in the business of health and wellness,” says Diane Campogni, Community Manager for Walgreens, Pinellas County. “Walgreens is the pharmacy, health and wellness destination for neighborhoods across the county, and we are confident that partnering with WellSpring Oncology will help further our greater goal to help people get, stay and live well.”

The selected cancer patients will receive gift cards and the children will receive gifts. The Seminole Walgreens is located at 10121 Seminole Blvd., Seminole, FL 33772.
