2012 Year in Review: The Way to Happiness Causes Ripple Effects Across Nashville

The year began with Church of Scientology staff and parishioners teaming up to launch a campaign for The Way to Happiness (TWTH).

Nashville, TN, January 02, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Way to Happiness, a book by L. Ron Hubbard, is comprised of 21 precepts, each one predicated on the fact that one’s survival depends on the survival of others—and that without the survival of others, neither joy nor happiness are attainable. In the two decades since it was authored, some 80 million copies of the book passed hand to hand, thus inspiring the international movement which has found its way to Nashville, TN.

The Nashville church decided to distribute copies of the book to neighboring communities. “It’s our responsibility to pass it along,” says the church’s pastor, Rev. Brian Fesler. “This book can uplift whole societies, reduce crime and encourage cooperation.” Chris Hays, a church parishioner who oversees the local distribution program says, “It’s so simple and so easy that all we have to do is give it to people. Everyone gets something out of it.”

Throughout 2012 the group volunteered in local health fairs, festivals and community gatherings. On the fourth of July, they participated in an Independence Day celebration where they distributed over 1,500 copies. They also had the opportunity to distribute the book at events for Earth Day. “There is an entire chapter about safeguarding and improving the environment around one, and that is very timely for this world today,” says Hays.

In December TWTH Volunteers participated in a Christmas parade in Hendersonville where they distributed more than 2,000 copies of the book. Hays was proud to be a part of the parade and enjoyed bringing even more cheer and joy to people at a time when it is most needed.

Hays has plans to reach all ninety-five counties of Tennessee, spreading this positive message. “It’s a book about morals and doing what’s right,” she says, “and people of all faiths want to do what’s right.” The book is secular, and its only discussion of religion is the advice to respect the religious beliefs of others. Hays feels “that’s important in a state where religion is highly valued and highly personal.”
