Bayer MaterialScience Honored by Johnson Controls as Industry Leader in Sustainability

Pittsburgh, PA, January 16, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Due to its longstanding commitment to sustainability, Bayer MaterialScience LLC recently received the Johnson Controls Sustainability Leadership Performance Award. Johnson Controls – a global industrial leader – recognizes its top-performing suppliers annually for achievements in sustainability, innovation and automotive products, among others.

“It really is quite an honor to be recognized by one of the premier automotive industry suppliers,” said Bill Worms, vice president, Polyurethane Raw Material Sales, Bayer MaterialScience. “At Bayer, sustainability shapes our operations, our products and how we do business. We are happy to see our efforts align with our customer’s goals as well.”

Bayer supplies Johnson Controls with isocyanates, base and polymer polyols used to produce polyurethane cushioning for lightweight vehicle headrests and seats.

Johnson Controls based the judging for the award on several factors including:

--Embracing sustainability as a core value of the company
--Executive ownership for sustainability related initiatives
--Complying with sustainability laws and regulations
--A focus on reducing the company’s carbon footprint and participation in the Carbon Disclosure Project
--Achievement of top tier scores in the Johnson Controls Supplier Scorecard for Sustainability

“Bayer holds sustainability in a very high view as we do at Johnson Controls,” said Kevin Krause, global purchasing director, Chemicals, Johnson Controls, Inc. “What really made Bayer stand out from the rest of our suppliers is their participation in the Carbon Disclosure Project – they took it seriously and scored high globally, not just in the North America region.”

Global key account manager for Bayer, Greg Stawara, accepted the award on behalf of Bayer at Johnson Controls’ annual North American Supplier Performance Awards ceremony held in Plymouth, Mich.
