The Simon Foundation for Continence Announces ContinenceCentral.org

Chicago, IL, January 22, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Simon Foundation for Continence announced today its launch of Continence Central (www.continencecentral.org) a unique new website to help the estimated 33 million Americans affected by incontinence that are looking for products and devices to better manage their loss of bladder and/or bowel control. The Simon Foundation for Continence has focused on creating an exceptional tool for people with incontinence, their families, and caregivers. Continence Central provides information on a wide range of products while not endorsing any product or brand name.

“Anyone who has tried to learn about the vast range of products and devices available to manage incontinence knows there are many challenges in locating the precise management product or products to fit their needs,” states Elizabeth LaGro, Director of Communication for the Simon Foundation for Continence. “Through the calls that we receive from patients and caregivers from across the country, we know there is a tremendous need for a comprehensive website to help people learn about the wide array of products available, and then how to purchase them.”

Continence Central.org users will also find up-to-date information on relevant issues such as reimbursement and location of diaper banks; and they are just a click away from the websites of companies who sell these products and devices, whether via retail stores or by direct mail. This website reminds users of the critical importance of reporting the symptom of incontinence to a healthcare professional that is interested and knowledgeable in treating incontinence. The website also reminds them of the dangers of believing any of the myths surrounding incontinence, such as it is merely due to aging or childbirth, and urges users to take action to find cure and treatment. Continence Central.org also offers a link to the new international site on product selection created in collaboration by the International Continence Society (ICS) and the International Consultation on Incontinence (ICI) that provides various assessment tools, including help in selecting the category of product that is most appropriate for each particular type of incontinence.

“The Simon Foundation is delighted that the impetus for both these consumer-friendly websites, and the collaboration that created and links them, originated at our 2011 biennial Innovating for Continence: The Engineering Challenge conference,” states Cheryle Gartley, President and Founder of The Simon Foundation for Continence and co-founder of the Continence Promotion Committee of the ICS. “As the first national website to link to this international effort, we are excited to be the prototype for other nationally-based websites that are certain to spring up around the globe.”

Visitors to ContinenceCentral.org are encouraged to return often to the website, as new companies and products being added are creating a rapid expansion of this useful tool.

Manufacturers and distributors/specialty retailers of continence care products are invited to participate in the new website through a submission process with the Foundation.
