D.C.-Based Employment Center Expands to Upper Marlboro

Career center opens a second site to help Marylanders get jobs.

Upper Marlboro, MD, February 07, 2013 --(PR.com)-- For years, Live It, Inc. (LIINC) has operated a unique, cutting-edge training and career services center, but moved to Washington, D.C., three years ago. On January 31 opened a new center in Upper Marlboro. The new Melwood site — near Andrews Air Force Base — will allow Live It, Inc., to reach Marylanders struggling with finding and maintaining employment. Based out of Melwood Church of the Nazarene, the new Maryland site has partnered with Bishop Anibal J. Maceira, head of the church’s Latino Outreach Ministry, to offer ESL and citizenship classes for immigrants on top of the regular career service offerings.

Offering career services from training to follow-up support, Live It, Inc.’s staff and volunteers assist the center’s target population: under-skilled and low-wage workers, residents of public and community housing, TANF recipients, recently transitioned or formerly homeless individuals, and immigrants. The unemployed & highly skilled are also welcome. By offering training, pre- screenings, and supplemental support for workers, the center provides area businesses with a reliable workforce.

In addition to helping participants become self-sufficient through employment, staff members take a holistic approach to solving individuals’ problems by arranging for emergency assistance, food and clothing assistance, and counseling services as needed.

“With our help and support, countless men and women have received the basic job training and guidance they needed to jump-start careers and move forward in life,” says Michelle Maceira, president and chair of LIINC’s board of directors. “Our fundamental belief is that ‘…with God all things are possible,’ and we see these determined men and women using that belief to turn around their lives.”
