Local Runner and Phoenix Foot and Ankle Specialist Offers Helpful Tips for Foot and Ankle Care

Phoenix, AZ, February 10, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Suzanne Abraham, DPM, a podiatrist with Phoenix Foot and Ankle Associates in Central Phoenix and Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center, and former Air Force Officer, provides residents with tips for proper foot and ankle care to help avoid common injuries and conditions.

Keep your feet clean and dry
Keeping your feet clean and dry can help you avoid a number of embarrassing conditions such as plantar warts, odor, athlete’s foot, and other viruses. Viruses and fungi flourish in dark, wet environments, so in order to avoid these conditions, dry your feet thoroughly after your showers, change socks if they become wet throughout the day, and avoid being barefoot at the pool or locker room.

Wear supportive, properly fitted shoes
If your shoes aren’t appropriately supportive, or fitting properly, foot pain and injury can easily occur. Check midsole and tread for wear. If wear is uneven, it may be time for a new pair. Are you a runner or athlete? Visit a store, like Roadrunner Sports, that specializes in athletic footwear to find the shoe that is best for you.

Trim toenails regularly and carefully
Not only can long toenails wreck your socks, they can harbor bacteria. Cutting your nails too short may cause ingrown toenails to occur. Cut your toenails above or at the edge of your toe and straight across the nail or at a slight curve.
