The Sam Houston Hotel Returns as Downtown Houston's Premier Boutique Hotel

Houston, TX, March 04, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Downtown Houston once again is home to the historic Sam Houston Hotel.

The 100-room downtown boutique hotel at 1117 Prairie, known as Alden Houston since 2005, has been renamed Sam Houston Hotel while it completes a renovation of its guestrooms, meeting and event spaces, public spaces and a refresh of its award-winning restaurant, *17.

Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the legendary property opened as Sam Houston Hotel in 1924. Houston-based American Liberty Hospitality and its investment partner, Gentry Mills Capital of Dallas, acquired the property in June 2012 with financing provided by Amegy Bank.

“Part of embracing the tradition and rich history of the hotel is returning to its original name,” says Sam Houston General Manager Nick Massad III. “The hotel will be referred to simply as ‘The Sam’ to continue its current, contemporary style.”

When the hotel re-opened in 2002 after an extensive renovation, its downtown location made it popular with individual business travelers and groups. Plus, the property is a preferred hotel for those in the legal profession attending proceedings at the adjacent downtown courthouses. On weekends, the hotel is a popular spot for sports and leisure guests including those attending weddings and other downtown events.

Amenities in The Sam’s new guestrooms and suites feature free in-room Wi-Fi, a Keurig® coffee maker, Russian blue granite-walled bathrooms, sleek glass showers, 40” LED flat screen televisions and Herman-Miller ergonomic chairs with a well-lit work desk.

The hotel will continue to be home to the contemporary *17 Restaurant where diners enjoy chef-driven, modern American cuisine and The Sam Bar, a popular, casual after-work spot serving hand-crafted cocktails and local beers.
The Sam’s 7,000 square feet of meeting and event space includes The Veranda, downtown’s most-popular wedding, meeting and event venue. The climate-controlled rooftop space, which accommodates up to 215, offers natural light and sensational views of downtown Houston.

All of the property’s meeting and event spaces include the latest audio-visual capabilities with cuisine presented by *17’s acclaimed culinary team.

Sam Houston Hotel is walking distance from the downtown business district, George R. Brown Convention Center, local courthouses, Minute Maid Park, the Theatre District, nightlife and the downtown light rail system.
